As expected, the Narendra Modi government in charge of the NDA stepped up rural funding on Friday and spent its final budget before the general elections distributing the largest income tax sopers to the middle class. Interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal presented the interim budget with a financial aid package which will include direct cash transfer of Rs 6,000 each year in three installments for marginal farmers. The rule also publicly announced a complete tax rebate for the wage class for those with an incomes in excess of Rs 5 lakh, in an effort to sweep the middle class.
Goyal also announced a mega-retirement scheme for unorganized workers. Goyal said that, under the Pradhan mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan, those who contribute Rs 100 months before retirement will receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,000. It will benefit ten unorganized crore employees and in five years, he added, could become the world’s largest unorganized pension scheme.
